Drinking=Bonding

January 30th, 2009 | Category: Josh

What is it about a cold glass of beer, a bar stool and a couple good friends that makes everything perfect.  My brother Dan, myself and good friend Ryan love  going to a small bar at the end of our street called 8oz.  We walk over, throw back a few, complain about the music industry and talk about the records we wish we’d made that U2 already made.

Sure, people have been doing this very thing for hundreds of years.  But it occurred to me one day a month or so ago.  I was drinking a Guinness with my father and I realized drinking really does equal bonding.

I’m walking to 8oz.

Cheers,

Josh

Mr. Brainwash

January 28th, 2009 | Category: Josh

Dan and I live off Melrose and Fairfax in West Hollywood.  If you’ve driven La Brea or Melrose you’ll undeniably see the art of Mr. Brainwash.  Leonard Nimoy dressed as Marylyn Monroe or Barack Obama smeared with lipstick and earrings or his latest slogan, “Life Is Beautiful”.

After looking at this art repeatedly, I’m obsessed with it.  Mr. Brainwash is the modern day Andy Warhol.  I have never seen his art shows but from what I’ve been told, they are absolutely incredible.  There is something intriguing and passionate about someone illegally tagging buildings with thought provoking art.  It’s bizarre and fantastic.  Check out his website.

Starbucks Smells Like My Sock Drawer

January 27th, 2009 | Category: Josh

Remember when Starbucks used to smell like coffee when you walked in?  I was discussing this with Daniel last week.  I don’t think this has anything to do with Starbucks becoming a corporate “sell-out”, they did that decades ago.  I think it has something to do with putting all of their coffee in pre-packs, or maybe it’s the sandwiches they started toasting.

I worked at Starbucks for years, I started when I was in high school, so I remember the days of scooping beans and grinding coffee every morning.  All of this is a thing of the past.  The sad part is, even though I visit Starbucks four or five times a week, if it were more convenient, I would probably go someplace else.  I’d much rather smell coffee in the morning than a musty sock drawer and I already get that.  On a positive note, the coffee still tastes good.

Cheers,

Josh

Sunset Vs Old Hollywood

January 26th, 2009 | Category: Josh

I remember walking Sunset Boulevard years ago.  I was intimidated by the idea that I lived in the one of the largest cities in the US and one of the most musically influential places in the world.  Clubs like The Viper Room, The Whiskey and The Roxy all line up on Hollywoods most famous quarter mile stretch.

Dan, Daniel and I meet at Peet’s Coffee on Sunset a couple mornings a week to discuss band ideas and map out our week.  It’s funny to think this place that I was so intimidated by, now seems to be lost somewhere in its past.  It’s no longer “cool” to play the big three anymore.  It seems divided up between the “Hotel Cafe’s” of Old Hollywood and the “Spaceland/Echo’s” of Silverlake.  Maybe it’s sad, maybe it’s refreshing. Regardless, it’s something to think about.  I’m going to get a refill.

Cheers,

The Flu

January 16th, 2009 | Category: Josh

I was just talking with Daniel the other day about flu season, how didn’t seem to hit this year.  I spoke too soon.  I have spent the last 48 hours laying on my bed.  After speaking to my brother, I have learned that he has the same and so does Daniel.  It’s better now than later, when things are busy.

This last week we started rehearsals working through our new album.  We’ll be playing most of the new record at our Hotel Cafe show on Feb. 6th.  Our close friend Dallas Kruse will be joining us on B3 and synths.  He’s amazing, we’re hoping to take him on the road with us in the future.

All that being said.  Please, get your flu shots and drink lots of water.  Don’t eat too much cheese pizza but please continue to listen to Until June.

Love and Cheers,

Josh

2009!!!

January 09th, 2009 | Category: Josh

Hope everyone had a great Holiday Season.  The three of us spent the Holidays on opposite sides of the country, conquering temperatures completely foreign to California men.  New York, Michigan and Arizona.

Tuesday we started rehearsals again in our studio/wherehouse downtown LA.  It was good to finally play with the guys again.  We’re working on showcasing gigs throughout January.  It’s an exciting month and we can’t wait to start playing all of our new material live.

Speaking of new material.  We have finished record number two.  We’ll be releasing some new tracks via iTunes very shortly.  It’s been a long wait so we appreciate everyone’s patience and support.  We’re dying to get it to you.

Well as for me, I will try and make the blog a more regular thing.  So please stop by often.  Today I’m finishing up a few things at the apartment,  excited to see Greg Laswell at Hotel Cafe tonight and extremely excited about the turkey sandwich I’m about to make.  Cheers!
